Man accused of witch-hunt released on bail

Gobardhan Sada alias Gobaru, 29, of Shambhunath VDC-1 has been released on January 7 after depositing Rs 8,000 demanded by the District Court. He was charged with inhuman treatment of Janaki Devi Gupta, 51, of the same place on charge of being witch. District Judge Tej Narayan Poudel ordered his release on bail. Janaki Devi has claimed that along with Gobardhan, his wife Anar Devi Sada, 27, Chandra Kamal Narayan Sada alias Badri, 33 and his wife Amerika Devi Sada, 30, had tried to feed her human excreta on April 14. Janaki Devi had moved Appellate Court with writ petition demanding mandamus on May 8 after the police refused to register her complaint. Following the order of mandamus to District Police Office issued by the Appellate Court on May 12, the police registered the case in December 3. Of the accused, Gobardhan was arrested on December 28, 2014 while other accused remain absconding.
