Two VDCs of the district – Sitapur and Titihiria – have been declared gender-based violence prevented zone. The declaration came after developing necessary infrastructure based on the outcomes of various inputs including phase-wise training, interaction, consultations and dispute resolving orientations. A series of discussions were made with women, men, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, community leaders, teachers, students and other sections of society. The violence prevention campaign initiated by SAATHI, an organization working for women rights, in the VDCs in collaboration of concerned VDC offices, is still in place, said Programme Coordinator Kalpana Acharya. With such a campaign in the run, there are no such incidents of domestic violence and community mediation as a measure to resolve the dispute has become effective in both the VDCs. A ward level group comprising male and female has been formed under the campaign provided lone participation of women would not mitigate violence in society. RSS
