Former ASI, Mahi Narayan Mandal, 46, of Pakari VDC-2 and currently livening in Pakari VDC-1 has been remanded in custody on January 7 on the charge of kidnapping a child. Mandal, who had remained absconding, had surrendered in the court making the case progress. The girl was abducted allegedly by Raj Kumar Mandal alias Raja, 21 of the same place as she was returning home from a tubewell in front of her home on May 13.

The accused took the girl to Pratapgunj of Bihar on the same day whence they were held and handed over to Indian police by villagers of Pratapgunj. The accused abductor Krishna absconded. The family of the girl managed to rescue the girl safely with the support of Indian police on the same day. The girl's father Dev Narayan Yadav filled a case on May 21 accusing them of human trafficking. The other accused remain absconding.
