Five banda enforcers including former minister Raj Lal Yadav were injured in a clash that took place between cadres of the 30-party Alliance led by the UCPN (Maoist) at Lahan today. The Alliance has called Madhes banda (general strike).
The clash took place between leaders and cadres associated with the Alliance and police during the Madhes banda. Former Minister Yadav, leader of the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Forum Rakesh Jha, among others, were injured in the clash.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Lahan-based Ram Prasad Uma Memorial Hospital, said police.
Now, the area is tense after the clash. A large number of security personnel have been mobilized to curb untoward incident.
Banda enforcers blamed police for interfering in their peaceful agitation.
Similarly, hundreds of vehicles have been stranded after the banda enforces obstructed traffic at different parts in the district along the East-West highway. As a result, passengers have been hit hard.
Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Area Police Office, Lahan, Gyanendra Prasad Phuyal, said discussion was on with leaders of the Alliance to send the stranded vehicles towards their destination.
All educational institutions, markets and factories are remain closed in the district due to the banda, it is learnt.
