A man received 32 years in prison for raping a minor in Bardiya district on Wednesday. A single bench of Judge Rishi Prasad Adhikari of Bardiya District Court slapped Kamal Nath Yogi, 35, of Shivapur-1 to 32 years in prison and ordered him to pay Rs 1.5 million in compensation to the victim. The accused had kidnapped the seven-year-old minor while she was sleeping in her home and raped her after taking her to a nearby forest. The minor was found in an unconscious state in the forest the following morning. The victim had recounted her ordeal in front of the judge during the hearing at the Court. According to legal practitioners, it is probably the first time in the district that such a long sentence was slapped for rape charges. Similarly, the court sentenced a 45-year old man to 25 years in prison and pay Rs 1.5 million in compensation for raping his own daughter. The accused who had been hiding in New Delhi, India, after committing the crime was caught by the locals and handed over to the police.
