2015-02-22

Madhes, Bara, Kalaiya, Ward 13

Enraged over the rape of a seven-year-old, students from various community schools have staged a demonstration protesting the series of child murders over the past year at the district headquarters, Kalaiya, on Sunday. The series of rape and subsequent murder of children have terrorized locals in the region. Over a thousand students from various private and government schools in Kalaiya have sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the local administration demanding security. “We have been compelled to resort to protests as the situation has gone from bad to worse and the guilty are yet to be identified and punished,” said women rights activist, Babita Jaiswal, demanding proper investigation into the cases. The victim who had gone missing since Friday evening was found in an unconscious state and naked behind Chandra Secondary School at Kalaiya-6 by locals. Admitted initially at the National Medical College, Birgunj, the victim was airlifted to the Capital on Sunday. A piece of wood had been shoved inside her genitals. According to police records, 13 children have been murdered in Kalaiya over the past year. While the police are yet to identify and bring the guilty to book, Superintendent of Police Lokendra Bahadur Malla said that they had formed a special team to investigate the incidents.
