Police have arrested 22-year-old Majefur Miya of Jandaul VDC-5 on the charge of trying to rape a 15-year-old girl. The District Court also granted police time to investigate the case. Miya has been accused of trying to rape the girl on May 21, 2014. Area Police Office Kanchanrup’s Inspector Umesh Lamsal said that the Court had extended his custody by 10 days and that it was the second time that Court had granted the time to the police. The mother of the girl had filed a writ petition at Appellate Court on September 22 accusing police of not taking any interest in the case of her daughter. Following the order of Mandamus to the Area Police Office, Kanchanrup to investigate the case. Police said that they received the copy of court order only on September 21, 2014, and that the complainant came to them only on February 19, 2015. The complaint was registered on Saptari DAO and the legal case was initiated on February 20.
