Police have confiscated hundreds of bamboo staves being brought to Kathmandu for the demonstration to be organised by the 33-party allaince led by UCPN-Maoist on Saturday.
Police said that the bamboo staves were seized from the buses during a regular security check at Nagdhunga, Thankot.
Following the seizure, police have beefed up checks on each vehicles entering from Nagdhunga, Thankot to the Capital.
The disgruntled 33-party alliance led by the UCPN-Maoist has planned a mass gathering in the Capital today to demonstrate its strength in the street and press the ruling parties to promulgate a new constitution on the basis of consensus.
The oppostion parties have planned to gather more than 200,000 people in the capital for the demonstration today.
It has been learnt that the UCPN-M cadres are likely to begin their demonstrations from Chabahil, Balaju, Maitighar Mandala and Lagankhel while the Sanghiya Samajwadi Party will march from Basantapur, Swayombhu. Likewise, other fringe parties will begin their stir from Koteshwor, Babarmahal and Tripureshwor among other places.
