2015-03-08

Madhes, Bara, Kalaiya

A six-year-old girl, who was raped in Kalaiya of Bara district 17 days ago, died on Sunday while receiving treatment at Kanti Children Hospital in Kathmandu. The minor undergoing treatment at Perinatal Intensive Care Unit for the past 14 days at the hospital passed away at 7 pm Sunday. According to the hospital's Director Dr Chandeshwar Mahaseth, she died after her heart and lungs stopped functioning following cardiac pulmonary arrest. “The reason of her death is a cardiac pulmonary arrest,” he said.

Chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Maharajgunj, Sanu Bhattarai said her dead body will be handed over to her parents after a postmortem on Monday. The victim's relatives plan to take the dead body to Kalaiya for her last rites. The six-year-old was found in an unconscious state a day after she went missing on February 20. She was brought to Kathmandu via helicopter on Sunday for treatment as her health condition showed no signs of improvement. According to Dr Mahaseth, the minor was in a coma when she was brought to Kathmandu for treatment. “The patient showed no improvement. This was a state of brain death,” he said. Relatives of the victim complained that the government did not take the incident seriously. Although a person has been arrested in connection with the incident, a lawmaker from the district Pramod Gupta said the government had failed to do justice to the victim.
