Six-year-old raped in Tehrathum

2015-03-03

Province 1, Terhathum, Aathrai

A six-year-old girl has been raped by her neighbour at Thoklung-2 in Tehrathum. Police said the incident, which occurred 11 days ago, came to light after locals could not settle the case in the village. The victim was taken to the hospital only a week later as her health deteriorated, the victim’s mother told the Post over the telephone. She said a local health facility transferred the victim to another hospital following a preliminary check-up. “The victim’s private organ has been torn and is swollen,” Dr Kijan Maharjan said, adding that the girl is suffering from insuppressible urination, pain in the vaginal canal and inability to move. Police, meanwhile, said they arrested 18-year-old Prem Kumar Shrestha based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family. Shrestha, who had suddenly disappeared from the village after the incident, was found hiding in his sister’s house on Thursday night. Police said they have also taken into custody Shrestha’s brother Yam Bahadur for helping the accused flee. The minor was raped when she went to Shrestha’s room for charging a mobile phone, her mother said. Shrestha’s mother cannot speak and his father was not at home when he committed the crime, locals said.
