Bagmati, Makawanpur, Hetauda, Ward 9
At a time when an incident of sexual harassment on a student by her teacher in Thaha municipality in the northern part of the district is yet to subside from the locals’ mind, a similar case was reported in Makawanpur’s Hetauda today. As many as 11 persons including six policemen got injured when guardians marched to Pragati Higher Secondary School in Hetauda-9 and attacked Tek Prasad Poudel, an English teacher, for sexually abusing a 16-year-old tenth-grader for the past one year. After the agitated guardians tried to assault Poudel, a police team from the Area Police Office of Pashupatinagar had reached the site to take the situation under control.
But the worked-up crowd torched Poudel’s motorbike on the school premises. Later, reinforcement forces from the district police office, riot control battalion Ratomate and ward police officers reached the site. A clash flared up between guardians and security personnel, which left 11 persons injured. “Six policemen and five students got injured in the scuffle,” informed SP Prakashjung Karki, adding that police had to fire five rounds of tear gas canisters to bring the situation under control. “The incident came to light after we learned that the teacher was continuously abusing the student for the past year and threatened her not to reveal the matter. The victim’s medical report showed that she had been mentally affected by the repeated abuse,” said a local guardian Krishnaraj Koirala. According to SP Karki, the investigation has been stalled for the time being as Poudel is being treated for the injuries he received in the attack.
