An elderly man from Chutrabesi has been arrested on the charges of raping an 11-year-old minor. The perpetrator is identified as 76-year-old Kul Bahadur Ale. “He had been raping her since the past 10 months but we learned about it only after she confided to me last week,” said the victim’s mother. According to the minor, Ale raped her frequently over the period, luring her with cash and sweets and threatening to create dire consequences if she ever revealed the incident to others. “I had been keeping it a secret but had to tell my mother after being unable to hold in any longer,” she said. An illiterate, the victim’s parents are daily wage workers. “A local political leader and Ale’s family had promised to give me Rs 500,000 if I did not take the matter to the police. But I registered the complaint in hopes for justice,” said the victim’s mother.
