The Parliamentary Legislation Committee endorsed on Tuesday the Bill on Gender Violence that proposes sentence up to eight years and fine up to Rs 5 lakhs for acid attack and other such attacks that blemish the beauty of a victim. The committee finalised the report of its sub-committee that had held clause-wise discussion on the Bill. According to Ganga Satgauwa, chairperson of the committee, the Bill proposes jail term ranging from five to eight years and a fine ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakhs depending upon the nature of the crime.
