A family in Rajbiraj of Saptari district accused police of denying registering a complaint about a gang rape incident that took place last week. The family claimed that police are trying to protect the suspects. The family from Rajbiraj Municipality-5 said police rejected to register the complaint, instead asked to change names of the accused if the family wants the complaint registered. “We had gone to police to register the complaint yesterday,” a family member said organising a press conference in Rajbiraj on Thursday, “But, police asked us to remove three names that we identified as suspects.” A 16-year-old girl was raped by seven persons in an afternoon last week, the victim’s brother informed at the press conference. Meanwhile, DSP Narayan Prasad Chimariya, spokesperson at the District Police Office, said the family had visited the office with a complaint mentioning seven persons. But, police have asked them to correct the complaint as they also included some persons who were not involved, he added. Chimariya said police are looking into the case.
