Madhes, Rautahat, Gaur

A committee formed to investigate into the alleged shoot-out from the southern side of the Nepal-India border during Gaur unrest is set to leave for India. Local authorities said the team will collect further details on the incident. The week-long protests in Gaur against a decision to set up branches of government offices at Chandranigahapur had turned violent after local resident Ram Ashish Thakur died after being hit by a police vehicle last week. While the protests were underway, some unidentified individuals had allegedly opened fire from the southern side of the border targeting Nepali security personnel. Chief District Officer Madan Bhujel said they started an investigation as the incident was very sensitive. Sources said the team left for India to meet Indian Superintendent of Police Hari Prasad in Sitamarhi district of Bihar. Local authorities in Rautahat said they “identified some of the masked shooters”. SP Bidur Khadka of Armed Police Force said the assailants had first pelted stones at the security camp and opened fire after crossing the border. SP Sanubabu Thapaliya said the incident has also concerned Indian security officials and they were in constant touch to discuss the matter. He said the Indian side is ready to assist in the investigation and they were focused on identifying the group or individuals behind the incident.
