Sudurpashchim, Kanchanpur, Bhimdatta, Ward 7

A police constable was beaten black and blue in the custody of the District Police Office in Kanchanpur on Thursday night. The victim has been identified as Gajendra Singh Saud of Mahakali Zonal Armed Police Force Barrack. He was beaten indiscriminately by three police constables while in custody. Saud told the media on Sunday, that he was thrashed upon the direction of a head constable at around 12:00 am. He has sustained injuries in different parts of his body and is unable to walk after the incident. According to Saud, he had been drinking alcohol with his friends at Mahendranagar Bazaar on Thursday night. The incident occurred when Saud requested another hotel owner for a meal at 10:00 am that day. “But the hotel proprietor informed the police and accused me of theft,” he said. He added that the police team had attacked him without further investigation. Saud said the police team, deployed from Bhanuchowk-based Police Post, had taken him under control. He was also taken to Mahakali Zonal Hospital for a health check-up. “I was kept in custody after the hospital confirmed that I was drunk,” he said. Saud, a permanent resident of Darchula, was transferred from Pokhara to Mahakali Zonal APF Barrack six months ago. He has been serving in the security agency for the past 10 years. He informed me that he was released after the request of the police on Saturday. “I was drunk and should be punished as per the law. But being thrashed by my co-workers is against the law of the land,” he said. He claimed that police personnel was unjust towards him and this incident could have a negative impact on the image of the police force. Spokesperson Avi Narayan Kafle, of DPO, said that Saud was held after he was found quarreling with locals and making noise under the influence of alcohol that night. Kafle said that he was handed over to the concerned office. The investigation into the incident is underway, he added.
