DAO seizes tents from UML leader in Tanahu

Gandaki, Tanahun, Byas, Ward 3

Tanahun District Administration Office seized 3,020 sets of tents from CPN-UML leader Ram Bahadur Gurung yesterday. The Ministry of Home Affairs had sent the tents for the quake victims of Tanahun Constituency-1. The DAO seized the tents following complaints that Gurung was planning to distribute the government-provided relief material among UML cadres. Gurung, the coordinator of Tanahun Constituency-1, had come under fire following reports that he was planning to distribute the relief material arbitrarily. Acting Tanahun CDO Kishor Kumar Chaudhary said that DAO had seized the tents from Gurung following protests from people. SP Mohan Kumar Acharya, Chief of District Police Office, Tanahun, said that DAO had taken the truck containing tents under control. UML leader Gurung, however, dismissed the allegations. “I brought the tents at my initiative from the Ministry of Home Affairs to distribute them among genuine quake victims, not for UML cadres,” Gurung said. He added that tents should be distributed among people of Constituency-1, as the number of people who were hit by the quake was high in the area. An-all party meeting held at DAO had decided to distribute the tents through VDC secretaries.
