As many as 11 persons were held on the charge of mistreating sixty-year-old Mankali Chapain of Neta VDC in Surkhet, today. Manakali was beaten black and blue and was taken out of her home a few days ago after local Goma Tiwari and Chandrakali Chapain accused her of practising witchcraft. Mankali had filed an FIR against 12 locals at District Police Office and they were held as per the FIR, whereas one of the accused is at large, said Surkhet DSP Rajib Basnet. Search for the person at large is on, said police. All the accused, Jhabuilal Tiwari, Pabisara Chapain, Durga Bahadur Chapain, Goma Tiwari, Chandrakali Chapain, Basudev Tiwari, Man Bahadur Chapain, Amrita Chapain, Bhim Bahadur Chapain, Moti Lal Chapain and Yamlal Chapain are in police custody whereas Hum Bahadur Chapain is at large. All the arrestees have been detained at DPO and investigation is on.
