Bagmati, Dolakha, Bigu, Ward 3

Earthquake displaced in Dolakha have complained of “massive irregularities” in relief distribution. When President Ram Baran Yadav visited the district to inspect the status of relief and recovery works on Friday, the earthquake victims told him that the relief works have been affected because of widespread corruption over relief allocation at the centre itself. They claimed that a large amount of relief materials sent for the victims in the district disappeared in the Capital. “We urge you to initiate an investigation into the matter and punish the guilty people,” Tara Bahadur Koirala, a local Nepali Congress leader, told the President. According to Koirala, the relief materials that were handed over to the leaders and political activists in Kathmandu disappeared without a trace, before reaching the victims in Dolakha . The Dolakha Civil Society submitted a written statement to President Yadav mentioning that there have been corruptions in relief distribution. Coordinator of Singati Civil Society Pushpa Basnet demanded that the government should immediately investigate the case of missing relief materials. Chief District Officer Premlal Lamichhane said although his office has asked for the details of the relief materials brought to Dolakha , the concerned organisations have not responded so far. “We have been asking them to furnish the details for the last 10 days,” Lamichhane said. Local Development Officer Resham Lamichhane said they only have records of the relief materials received by the District Disaster Relief and Rescue Committee.
