Locals in Amarpur of Panchthar took a police constable under control on a charge of rape attempt on a 57-year-old woman. Constable Dipesh Chaudhary has been handed over to police on Sunday evening. Locals have claimed that the policeman who was inebriated misbehaved with two other women also on Sunday afternoon. The villagers had lightly thrashed the constable before submitting him to a police team deployed from the District Police Office (DPO). Locals had demonstrated in Amarpur Bazaar area till late night yesterday demanding stern actions against the suspect. DSP Dipak Pokhrel of the DPO said police are looking into the case keeping the accused in the DPO custody. In additions to actions for the rape attempt, he will face departmental actions also, if proved guilty, warned Pokhrel.
