SSB obstructs fencing in Nepali territory

2015-06-16

Lumbini, Kapilbastu, Bijayanagar, Ward 1

India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has reportedly objected to fencing activities carried out in Birnagar Bhatha of Gugauli VDC-3 in Kapilvastu by the District Forests Office to plant saplings in the area. The Office had begun planting various saplings after removing those who encroached the forest land from the area. Though the land falls in Nepali territory, the Indian side has claimed that the area was disputed, locals said. The Arra rivulet of the area works as a borderline between Nepal and India. However, SSB personnel obstructed the fencing works claiming that the land remained under dispute, said Ranger at the Office, Rabindra Khanal. The Gautam Buddha Collaborative Forest had initiated to install a fence in around 9.8 hectares of territory. Similarly, Chief District Officer Binod Prakash Singh said the case has been reported to the higher authority for necessary action while he also is trying to resolve the issue after holding a dialogue with the neighboring Indian authorities.
