The district court of Lalitpur has sentenced Anup Rana Magar who was arrested on the charge of attacking a girl with acid near Krishnamandir in Lalitpur on March 22, 2015, after she refused his love proposal. The verdict was issued by a bench of justice Tek Narayan Kunwar. The attacker was sentenced under the battery/hurt act of the Muluki Ain as there is no separate law to deal with cases of acid attack. The three years sentence is the maximum jail term possible under the battery/hurt act. The justice also stressed on the need for a separate law to deal with such cases.
