An elderly man was jailed on the charge of raping a mentally retarded woman in the district. 60-year-old Lakhman Tamang of Nunthala-5 was sent to jail for investigation on the alleged rape charges of a mentally ill 24-year-old woman. Khotang District Court said, "Tamang was sent to jail for investigation following his arrest on June 23". Four days after the incident, the victim's kin lodged a case against Tamang at the Bakshila-based Area Police Station on June 25. The hymen of the victim was reportedly torn and as many as six stitches were used. Her health check-up was carried out at District Hospital Diktel.
