Police on Sunday detained a 38-year-old man who reportedly fed on hearts, livers and heads of human as well as cattle. The District Police Office arrested Ramesh BK, a permanent resident of Ghorahi-4, from a forest in Satbariya. Ramesh, whose mental integrity is apparently questionable, was nabbed on the charge of murdering Debaki BK, 56, of Tripur Municipality-4. Debaki, a mentally ill woman, was found murdered in Ghorahi-4 on Thursday night. She had come to the house of her sister Bimala BK when the incident took place. Her torso without its heart, liver and intestines was found in a shed. Police suspected that Ramesh might have murdered the victim to eat her body parts. The suspect is Bimala’s brother-in-law. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjit Sing Rathour said the suspect has weird habit of eating heart, liver and head of human and other cattle since long. “He (Ramesh) is said to killed cattle in his neighbourhood to feed on their heart and liver in past. We are investigating what he did with the organs of Debaki after the murder,” Rathour said. According to villagers, Ramesh used to kill goats, sheep and even fowls and eat their heart and liver. Police said the suspect slaughtered four sheep of his neighbour recently. Moreover, Ramesh is also suspected to have exhumed bodies from graveyards in the vicinity and eaten their parts. The Yogi community in Chaughera area expressed their concerns stating that somebody dug the grave, exhumed the bodies and whisked away some parts. Bharatnath Yogi, a local resident, said he saw some exhumed bodies without their head and other body parts.
