2015-07-27

Province 1, Sunsari, Itahari

A clash occurred between supporters of a Hindu state and police in Itahari on Monday morning. The situation grew tense for a while after police had snatched two flags from protesters and the DSP allegedly pushed one of the protesters who were shouting slogans against the police action. A minor scuffle ensued but no one was injured. Protesters burnt an effigue of General Secretary of UCPN (Maoist) Krishna Bahadur Mahara as they claimed he had rejected the demand for a Hindu State during a Christian program held earlier in Kathmandu. The protesters enforced a two hours (chakka jam) strike in Itahari that day.
