Torture will carry upto 5 years of imprisonment

Torturing the ones arrested during crime investigation can lead up to 5 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. In a bill issued by the Home Ministry in Constituent Assembly to control the cases of torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment, it is stated that both the torturer and those ordering the inhuman treatment will be considered equally guilty. The law also states that an officer-in-charge of a police station will be responsible if the case of torture is proved in a particular police station. However, false accusations of torture will result in a fine of Rs 10,000.
