The Dalit community today enforced a chakkajam for two hours in Pokhara today. The Joint Dalit Struggle Committee had called the transport strike demanding that the rights of Dalits be guaranteed in the new statute. The committee said that it had launched a series of agitation to secure their rights in the new constitution. Dalit activists and Dalit people staged a whistle rally and shouted slogans seeking equal rights, end of untouchability, and discrimination.
The struggle committee halted the vehicles from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Dalit Struggle Committee Makawanpur called a chakkajam for two hours at the Rapti Khola road section along the East-West Highway in the district. Nepal Marginalised Ethnic Liberation Society central member Yuktalal Biswokarma said they had enforced the transport strike as the draft statute had curtailed the rights of Dalits guaranteed by the Interim Constitution. He said they wanted the CA and parties to ensure a 20 percent representation of Dalits in the state organs in the constitution. The Dalit Struggle Committee called a two-hour transport strike in Gaur, Rautahat, demanding representation in all the state organs in the new statute.
