The demonstration in Karnali zone that started with a demand of a Karnali autonomous province with prerogative rights has entered its tenth day on Tuesday. The curfew clamped by the government to prevent any untoward incidents has crippled the normal life of Karnali people. "The curfew has been clamped after the demonstrators continued their agitation vandalizing and setting fire to government offices," said Jumla Chief District Officer Dipendra Raj Paudel. The civil society has been asked to play a mediating role between demonstrators and police personnel. The curfew which was lifted for some time in the morning today has been imposed again since 8 am.

The police are deserting village-based police posts after the irate protestors began to throw away signboards and picketed police posts. "The police personnel have been called back to the district headquarters after the irate demonstrators picketed the police posts almost every day and vandalized the signboards," said DSP Bishnu Hari Koirala. With the police personnel called back to the district headquarters, the fear of insecurity has grown in the villages. On early Tuesday, the irate demonstrators took to the streets shouting slogans as the curfew was lifted briefly. The signboards of the Area Police Post and government offices based in Hanku have been vandalized.
