Alleging the government of turning a blind eye to the demands of Dr Govinda KC, who is on a fast-unto-death for the past one week, over 300 resident doctors at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) have decided to halt OPD services and academic activities from Monday afternoon. The meeting of the association of the resident doctors, National Resident Doctors Association on Sunday evening decided to abstain from all hospital services except emergency services. The meeting also decided to begin a relay hunger strike in which the students at TUTH, senior doctors and members of the general public will participate to draw government attention to Dr KC's demands. Dr KC, a senior orthopaedic surgeon at the TUTH, went on fast-unto-death for the sixth time on August 24 after the government did not pay heed to his repeated requests to implement the recommendations made by the Mathema Committee. The Mathema committee, which was formed in November last year as per Dr KC's demand to recommend national medical education policy, had submitted its report to the government on June 29.
