Cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front vandalised different offices on the 16th day of its general strike in Janakpur today.
Bandh enforcers vandalised Everest Bank and Money Transfer at Mills area in Janakpur today morning. The demonstrators also pelted stones at Sahayogi Bikash Bank, Nepal Bank City Office and Rastriya Banijaya Bank. They also damaged a tractor belonging to Rahul Supply Service.
They took out a rally from Ramananda Chowk that took a round of the city. The rally turned into a corner meeting at Bhanu Chowk. After the corner meeting, the youths demonstrated with their torsos bared demanding an autonomous Madhes Province. Similarly, a motorcycle rally led by Rastriya Madhes Socialist Party Chairman Saratsingh Bhandari reached Dhanushadham before turning into to corner meeting. The rally turned into a mass meeting after reaching Bardibas of Mahottari.
Bhandari told the gathering that they would not back down on the autonomous Madhes demand as it was included in the interim constitution. “Almost all the problems will be settled if the past agreement between Madhesi and Tharuhat are implemented,” he said adding, federalism and citizenship certificate have to be included in the new statute. He warned that the district headquarters-based protest would be centered along the highway and blockades would be put in place against Kathmandu.
