Morcha blocks good supplies to Nepalgunj

Madheshi Morcha has intensified its protest in Banke on Tuesday by blocking transportation of goods and supplies to Nepalgunj. It has deployed activists in key entry points to the city including Jamunaha, a town on the southern part of the city that borders with India, Parspur and Manpur on the western part of the city, Rajha Chowk on the northern, and Fultekra on the eastern part of the city. Its activists have restricted movement along these roads, totally cutting out supply of goods to Nepalgunj, informed Morcha leader Pashupati Dayal Mishra. "As the government has remained mute to our demands, we are forced to block supplies to Nepalgunj," Mishra said while defending the Morcha's decision to block supplies. Protests in Banke have been ongoing since the past three weeks. According to sub-inspector Bishnu Giri, trucks and other vehicles have not been able to ply on the roads due to the blockade imposed by the Morcha's cadres. "Cadres of Morcha are heavily mobilized on the road and they have restricting vehicular movement," he informed. On Tuesday, Morcha's cadres enforced the blockade from 10 in the morning and did not allow vehicles to enter the city until 4 in the evening. "Apart from bicycles, rikshaw and pedestrians, nothing has been allowed to enter the checkpoint," said Giri, adding that many trucks and vehicles have been left stranded in Rupedia due to the blockade. According to police, the protesters vandalized a motorcycle and a cottage along the Surkhet road during on Tuesday while attempting to enforce the banda on Tuesday.
