Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu, Ward 10

Saudi police issued an arrest warrant against a Saudi counsellor working at the Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia on the charges of enslaving and sexually abusing two Nepali women. The visa counsellor and his assistant have been charged with trafficking Nepali women—Juna Damai, 30, of Baglung and Gita Tamang, 50, of Belbari, Morang—and forcing them into sexual activities for the past five months. The victim’s duo, in their statement, said that the counsellor had enslaved them at his home and forced them into sexual activities with his Saudi guests. The victims were also flown from Saudi Arabia to Indian cities of Nainital and Gudgaun where they were repeatedly exploited by a group of men. Bal Krishna Panday, the founder of Maiti India, an organisation working against girls trafficking in India, who also informed the Nepali embassy in Saudi Arabia about the exploitation of the women, said that the counsellor will be prosecuted under seven different sections against human trafficking, sexual exploitations, among others. Panday also informed that the two women will be flown back to Kathmandu after they record their statements at police and complete other legal procedures. The two women were flown to New Delhi by a Nepali agent. Upon their arrival in New Delhi, another Indian agent had flown them to Saudi Arabia where they ended at the house of the counsellor five months ago.

update from NDTV: Gurgaon: The wife and daughter of the Saudi diplomat abused the Gurgaon Police officials when they went to rescue the two Nepalese women, who alleged rape by the diplomat, police said in a report to Ministry of External Affairs. According to the report, while the investigation team was waiting outside the apartment's front door, the two women allegedly started beating up the Nepalese women to stop them from leaving the house. However, the team managed to rescue the victims "after a great deal of persuasion." The detailed report was sent to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on September 9. Around 40 police personnel, including policewomen, had gone to the diplomat's fifth-floor flat at Ambience Island around 2.30 pm on September 7. But his family members refused to open the door. When they finally did, they tried to physically prevent the police from entering, the eyewitnesses had told NDTV. The Nepalese women have alleged that the diplomat and some of his friends used to sexually assault them, while his wife often threatened them by putting a knife on their throat. One of them was allegedly stabbed once in her arm. The police, in the report, also mentioned that the diplomat's daughter was the only person whom the victims knew by name. The victims also told police that she never assaulted them. Gurgaon police, in the report, said that they were unaware of the identities of the occupants of the apartment when they went rescue the two Nepalese women. "We later realised that the residents could be Saudi Arabian nationals who may be holding diplomatic status in India. Their names could not be confirmed on spot but the male member is believed to be Mr Majid, who is believed to be the First Secretary with the Saudi Arabian Embassy in New Delhi," reads the report. It also mentions that Gurgaon Police had received a letter and a phone call from the Nepal embassy to "rescue and repatriate" the Nepalese women. Senior Police said that they were awaiting the ministry's response before taking any further action in connection with the case.
