Strike effect dismal, security beefed up in Capital

2015-09-19

Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

Government has stepped up the security in the Capital in view of the promulgation of the new constitution on Sunday. Large numbers of security personnel have been deployed in the valley and especially in the Constituent Assembly hall in New Baneshwor as measures to prevent any untoward incidents from happening on the historic day. Routes to be used by president, prime minister, chiefs of diplomatic missions in Nepal, and other high level government and foreign officials on their way to CA building also have heavy presence of security personnel. Meanwhile, a strike called by dissident parties has little effect in the valley life. Public and private vehicles are operating on the road as usual. Twelve banda enforcers, nine in Kathmandu and three in Lalitpur, have been arrested by police. Metropolitan Police Office Spokesperson SSP Narayan Singh Khadka said that anyone found hindering public life today will be immediately arrested. Khadka also informed that fake bombs were found at two places in Lalitpur district. A bomb disposal team of Nepal Army found papers and sand packed inside those packs. “They were put there to scare people,” Khadka said. Khadka said that reserve security forces have been put on standby at police headquarters and police circles and will be mobilised if needed today.
