2015-09-20

At the call of United Democratic Madhesi Front, locals in Bara and Parsa have hoisted black flags atop their houses to protest the three major parties’ decision to promulgate the new constitution. The locals have hoisted black flags at a time when the government has appealed to the public to illuminate their houses to celebrate the promulgation of new statute. Jitendra Sonal, general secretary of Tarai Mades Democratic Party, said the locals had hoisted black flags to condemn the promulgation of new constitution. Sonal, who is in police custody at Bara’s Simara, accused NC, UML and UCPN-Maoists of bypassing the Madhes as well as Madhesis and trying to forcefully promulgate the statute. “We will not allow the three major parties to promulgate the new statute unless the agreements reached with Madhes-based parties are implemented,” Sonal warned. Pradip Yadav, Parsa district Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, said people had flown black flags atop their houses in the municipal and rural areas of Birgunj. Cadres and leaders affiliated to UDMF took out a rally tying black bands on their heads to protest the new statute in Birgunj today. The rally, that began from Birgunj’s dry port and Basdilwa VDC, made a round of various VDCs in Parsa. Yadav said they would mark September 20 as black day though the Big Three had urged the public to celebrate the occasion. UDMF has scheduled a black out from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm tomorrow. They are also planning to burn the copies of the new statute on September 21 and stage a rally defying the prohibitory order in Birgunj. Meanwhile, UDMF staged rallies to protest the ratification of the new constitution at various places in Bara today. Locals raised black flags atop their houses at all constituencies of Bara and staged rally with black flags. The demonstrators also demanded immediate release of Sonal and the party’s district Chairman Nabal Kishor Singh. We shall not allow them to execute it unless our rights are guaranteed,” Sonal said, talking to journalists at Area Police Office Simara, Bara. Stating that 40 people from Madhes had sacrificed their lives, Sonal asked the three major parties to give up their pride and address the genuine demands of Madhes and Madhesis.
