Tikapur incident: Murder case lodged against Laxman Tharu, Dhaniram Chaudhary and 56 others

(Updated) ---The Office of District Attorney, Dhangadi on Tuesday filed a case at the Kailali District Court against 58 persons for their alleged involvement in the Tikapur incident that saw the killing of 8 policemen and a minor in late August. District Court Registrar Jagadish Prasad Bhatta shared that the murder cases were registered against the defendants including central committee member of Madhesi People's Rights Forum (Democratic) Laxman Tharu, central coordinator of Tharuhat/Tharuwan Struggle Committee Dhaniram Chaudhary, Committee's district coordinator Lahuram Chaudhary and leader of Sadvawana Party Resham Chaudhary. Among the accused, 22 were produced before the court while 36 defendants including Dhaniram Chaudhary and Resham Chaudhary are at large. Demand has been made before the court to issue a warrant order against the absconding defendants. SSP Laxman Neupane of Seti Zone along with seven other security personnel and a minor were killed in a violent clash that erupted in course of the demonstration in Tikapur of Kailali last August 24.

 update.......Police have arrested a local from Beluwa settlement in Narayanpur VDC, Kailali, for his alleged involvement in the Tikapur incident in which nine persons, including a senior police official and an 18-month-old boy, were killed. Police in civvies detained Bishram Chaudhary from his shop in Tikapur on Tuesday evening. The suspect owns the shop near the office of Tikapur Chamber of Commerce. A murder and robbery case has been against Chaudhary. Nine persons were killed in August last year during a clash between demonstrators and police in Tikapur. Deputy Superintendent of Police Gautam Mishra said the arrested has been taken to Dhangadi, the district head-quarters of Kailali, for investigation.
