Bhairahawa entry point tense, 2 DSPs among 8 cops injured

(updated)-Bhairahawa-Sunauli border became tense on Monday after the protestors, who arrived at the no-man’s land for sit-in protest began pelting stones at Nepali security personnel at around 12:30 pm. Eight policemen, including two DSP, sustained injuries in the confrontation. Also, two media personnel have been injured. The cadres of agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) suddenly started raining stones when the security personnel approached them to request for staging such a demonstration that would block the border. Armed Police Force DSP Shankar Khanal and Nepal Police DSP Rameshwor Karki were injured in the incident. Injured journalists were Sharada Malla and Salman Khan. The protestors fled towards the Indian side after the incident. However, the police managed to detain three demonstrators in connection with the incident. Vehicle movement has come to a grinding halt following the incident.

(Update)- Fifteen people were injured during sporadic clashes between the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) supporters and security personnel at the Sunauli customs point on Monday. Ten security personnel, including two Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) officers, and five locals were injured when protesters hurled stones from no-man’s-land area. After the incident, four Nepalis who went to Sunauli in India for their household activities were thrashed by unidentified persons.
