Hill-origin communities residing in Mahottari district on Sunday organized a solidarity rally at district headquarters, Jaleshwar, to express support for the demands of Madhes. According to Dil Bahadur Shrestha, one of the participants in the rally, Pahadi communities organized the rally to support Madhesis' indefinite strike against the constitution. Hundreds of locals had joined the solidarity rally. "We, Pahadi communities, joined the movement to press the government to address the demands of Madhes," said Shrestha. Another participant, Tauleshwar Shrestha, informed that the rally was organized with a view to strengthen ties between Pahadi and Madhesi communities. Cadres and leaders of agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have been protesting against the country's new constitution for the last 58 days. The agitating Madhesi parties have also been staging sit-in protests and imposing blockade at the Nepal-India border for the last 19 days. Due to the prolonged strike and border blockade, the country has been reeling under acute shortage of basic supplies, especially petroleum products. Six persons were killed in police firing during agitating Madhesi parties' demonstrations in Mahottari.
