Hill-origin people in Sarlahi support Madhes demands

Members of the hilly community in organized a rally expressing in Malangawa on Thursday to express solidarity with the demands of Madhesi community. The rally comes three months since the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) launched protests in the region. Participants of the rally chanted slogans that eulogized strong bond of brotherhood between members of the hilly and Madhesi communities in the district. They demanded the government to address the grievances of Madhes and to restore public life back to normalcy. Prior to today's rally, members of the hilly community had participated in forming the human chain along the Hulaki road with their Madhesi fellow and had provided meals to the protestors to express their support to the genuine agenda of Madhes. "Unlike the some other Tarai districts where the protest turned violent, protestors in Sarlahi have shown maturity by staging peaceful protest in mutual understanding between both the communities and the District Administration Office," said Jangi Lal Ray, district chairperson of Tarai Madhesh Loktantrik Party. "We believe that the peaceful protest gathered more support than the violent one," said Ray. Life in Sarlahi has come to a still following the two months long indefinite closure enforced by the Madhesi Morcha. Service seekers have been greatly affected as government offices and banks have also been closed due to the banda. The blockade at Sonbarsha, the Indian border to Malangawa, remained intact.
