Two Indians arrested while clearing Birgunj checkpoint

Update...Police intervened and reopened the Birgunj checkpoint, five arrested. SP Rajubabu Shrestha of Parsa Police told Sethopati that the police had removed the protesters at the check post at 5.10 am on Monday. As soon as the blockade of the checkpoint is removed, Indian trucks stopping at Nepal are being sent across the border. Indian vehicles stranded in Birgunj have entered India after security personnel removed the protesters from the checkpoint. Shrestha said that more than 150 Indian vehicles have crossed the border so far. The security personnel had intervened one morning after a small number of UDMF cadres fell asleep at night. According to SP Shrestha of Parsa Police, the security personnel arrested five protesters at Miteri Bridge at 5:10 am on Monday and five of them escaped. ‘150 vehicles have entered Raxaul and other vehicles and trucks are queuing to enter India. Even though vehicles entered India from Nepal, no vehicles entered Nepal from India, 'said SP Shrestha. Police said that five people, including an Indian national, were arrested while interfering in the protest. The arrested are Mohammad Jamruddin and Samad Ansari of Bharat Motihari, Harendra Rana of Rautahat, Bir Bahadur Mahato of Bara and Jagan Patel of Birgunj, said Parsa Police, Chief SP Shrestha. SP Shrestha said that the security personnel did not use force to disperse the protesters. 'When we got there, there were 15-20 people inside the tent. Most of the fugitives have been arrested. "Security has come under the control of Nepali territory on the border," he told Sethopati. "Security personnel have not attacked anyone with sticks." Protesters have started burning tires in Birgunj to protest the police intervention. The protesting tent has been taken away by the security personnel.

Police have arrested two Indian citizens in course of removing tents being used by the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) cadres at the Birgunj checkpoint on Monday morning. Police said five protestors including two Indian citizens were arrested while intervening in the protest staged by the UDMF this morning. The arrested Indians are Mohammad Jamaruddhin and Samad Ansari. Similarly, the cadres affiliated to the UDMF are Rana of Rautahat of Rautahat, Bir Bahadur Mahato of Bara and Jagan Patel of Birgunj, informed Chief of Parsa district SP Rajubabu Shrestha. The police force has been used to remove the protestors, said SP Shrestha. "There were 15-20 cadres under a tent. Most of them ran away. We took five cadres under control. The Nepali land bordering India at Birgunj checkpoint has come under the control of Nepal security force," Shrestha told Republica. With the Nepali land under the control of Nepal security forces, 180 trucks that had been stranded in Birgunj have entered India. Indian drivers had staged a protest at the Consulate General of Indian, Birgunj after they could not return home due to UDMF protest across the border checkpoint. A huge number of security forces have been mobilized at the Birgunj checkpoint after chasing away the cadres that had been staging a protest for the last 40 days. The security forces chased away the cadres from the checkpoint at 4:30 am today.
