Demanding security and easy availability of vital drugs, the health workers of Biratnagar staged a protest on Friday. They organized the protest program after having serious problems in the treatment of patients in lack of vital drugs. The health workers, who are working in various hospitals in Biratnagar, and medicine entrepreneurs have said that they had to organize the protest program as they were unable to work in an environment where they lack security of their own lives. They expressed concerns over the condition of patients struggling to find the medicines they need. The doctors of Morang said that nobody should create any obstacle in the health sector as it is a very sensitive issue. They even opined that the activities of vandalizing ambulances and creating obstructions for the vehicles carrying medicines should not be carried out by the cadres of Madhesi Front in the name of protest. Regional President of Association of Private Health Institute of Nepal (APHIN) Dr Kailash Shrestha said that the doctors are not in the condition to save lives of people due to lack of medicines caused by the obstruction to the vehicles carrying medicines at border points. “Patients are suffering in lack of vital drugs,” he said. “Many operation theatres are also on the verge of closing.” Shrestha urged the agitating parties and the government to keep the medical sector free from politics. Various 10 organizations working in the sector of health and medicine organized a rally on Friday. The participants submitted a memorandum to the prime minister via District Administration Office (DAO), Morang, after the rally. Receiving the memorandum letter, Morang's Chief District Officer Ganesh Raj Karki said that the ongoing strikes and economic blockade imposed by India have created troubles for the people and has had a serious impact on the health sector. He claimed that the DAO has kept health services in the first priority. “The government has been providing fuel to the vehicles belonging to the health sector even in this difficult time,” he said, adding, “Those who vandalized ambulances will be brought under the purview of the law.”
