Women rights activist beaten up by her husband in Mugu

As the 16 days campaign against gender violence continues, a woman working for the protection of women's rights and women empowerment was beaten up by her husband. Lokendra Shahi, 30, of Photu VDC-5 beat his wife Satya Devi Bam at his rented room in Gamgadhi on December 6, according to police. Satya Devi works in raising awareness of women's rights in rural parts of the Humla district under the women empowerment program. Her husband married a second wife two years ago. According to the victim, her husband beat her as she had come to Gamgadhi for work. Injured in the beating, the victim is undergoing treatment in District Hospital. Satya Devi sustained injuries in her left hand and head. The victim said that she was staying with her family after he beat her repeatedly after getting a second wife. Police are searching for Lokendra after the incident. The accused is a former chairperson of Nepal Students Union District Committee Mugu. DSP Som Thapa said that though a case form regarding the incident had arrived, no complaint had been registered.
