Man arrested on the charges of child-marriage in Banke

Police arrested a 45-year-old man from Basudevpur in Nepalgunj-26 on the charges of forcibly marrying a 13-year-old girl. The man identified as Ghanshyam Pal was arrested by the area police office Kohalpur. According to the police Pal had forcibly taken the girl - an 8th-grade student of local Janata Secondary school to India around two months ago and married her there. Pal already has four children from his previous marriage. He was arrested on Saturday when he come back to his house. Police have also taken the girl into custody. They were arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by the girl's family at police. DSP Rajiv Basnet of area police office Kohalpur informed that they were investigating the incident and are preparing to file a child-marriage charge against Pal. Family and relatives of the girl have meanwhile complained that they are facing pressure from the police and local political leaders to settle the case outside court. They are demanding Pal be charged with kidnapping and child-marriage charge.
