Province 1, Panchthar, Phidim
The mother of a rape victim in Panchthar has revealed that some local political and civil society leaders pressurised her to withdraw the case she filed against some youth who allegedly raped her. The mother said she was offered Rs 200,000 as compensation to settle the case after she filed the case yesterday at the District Police Office (DPO), Panchthar, against the planned crime that occurred on last Monday, January 11. The mother-daughter duo work as field labourers at others’ farms.
According to the mother’s report, one of the accused, Nara Bahadur Yonghang, had called the 15-year-old girl to work for him, but locked her in a room and raped her. Yonghang’s son and a family guest Hemraj Adhikari also raped her, according to the mother. Police Inspector Bijay Shrestha of the DPO informed that they have arrested the mastermind Nara Bahadur and started necessary investigation while the two others, who raped the girl, are still at large. A medical examination on the following day of the crime has also proved that the girl was raped, stated the District Health Office, Panchthar.
