Police have arrested 61-year-old Ram Swaroop Shah on January 17 on the charge of killing his daughter-in-law 27-year-old Anupama Shah, of Malekpur VDC-3. According to Inspector Suraj Khadka, the accused was arrested one year later based on the complaint filed by the deceased's brother that family members including Ram burned her alive on January 17 last year over a domestic dispute. Inspector Khadka said that a murder charge was filed against Ram. Suffering serious burn injuries, Anupama had died while undergoing treatment in BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan on the same day. Post-mortem of the deceased was carried out at the same hospital.

  Brother of Anupama, 30-year-old Ranjit Shah of Rajbiraj Municipality-5 had filed a complaint against Ram, his wife, Anupama's husband 42-yer-old Baijanath Shah and his first wife 36-year-old Beena Devi Shah, at the District Police Office on January 27, 2015. The family of the victim had sent their complaint through post office on April 6. Her brother Ranjit had filed a writ appeal at the Appellate Court after DPO refused to register the complaint. A joint bench of Judges Iswar Prasad Khatiwada and Tej Bahadur Rai, on June 21, 2015, ordered the DPO to start the legal investigation by immediately registering the FIR. Anupama was married to Baijanath in 2012 after his first marriage could not bear him children. The deceased has a son. Arrested Ram had filed an appeal at the DPO on January 18, 2015, claiming that Anupama had committed suicide by burning herself.

Manohar Kumar Pokharel
