Tharuhat-Tharuwan to continue protest

2016-01-26

Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

The Tharuhat-Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee said today that it would continue its protest as the first amendment to the constitution did not address its demands. “Our main demand is proportional representation of Tharus in all organs of the state,” said a press statement issued by TTJSC Coordinator Dhaniram Chaudhary. “But the amendment does not address the main demand of the Tharuhat movement.” Chaudhary commented that the government and major parties had betrayed the protesting parties by amending the constitution without holding consultations with them. The committee, meanwhile, urged the government and major parties to address their 13-point demand. “Otherwise, we will have to intensify our protest,” it warned.
