Corruption case filed against Local Development Officer

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today filed a corruption case against six people, including Local Development Officer of Kathmandu, at the Special Court for irregularities in the procurement of tarpaulin sheets for earthquake victims. According to CIAA, it has sought a fine of Rs Rs 3,506,626.76 each from LDO Tirtha Raj Bhattarai, accounts officer of District Development Committee, Kathmandu, Yam Nath Sharma and storekeeper Chiranjivi Khadka. The anti-graft body has claimed that they imported tarpaulin sheets worth Rs 328,016 from India and submitted fake bills of Rs 3,506,626.76. Three suppliers of tarpaulin sheets — Mithileswor Tiwari of New Pashupati Trade and Suppliers, Jhamka Prasad Gautam of Dipesh Enterprises and Hom Prasad Gautam of Sebika Enterprises — have also been named as defendants in the case. The commission has sought fine of Rs 2,234,669 from Tiwari, Rs 893,277 from Jhamka Prasad Gautam and Rs 378,680 from Hom Prasad Gautam.
