CIAA files graft case against Dr Bhurtel

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday filed a corruption case against Dr Keshav Raj Bhurtel for accumulating properties beyond his legal sources of income. Dr Burtel has been accused of illegally accumulating Rs 6.7 million during his tenure as medical superintendent at Bharatpur Hospital. A charge sheet filed by the anti-graft body states Dr Bhurtel accumulated money, abusing his authority and through corruption after getting an appointment at the hospital. Dr Bhurtel collected kickbacks from contractors while constructing hospital buildings, abuse his authority while procuring medical supplies and leasing out hospital land, the CIAA said in a charge sheet, seeking recovery of the amount through the confiscation of his properties and imprisonment in accordance with anti-corruption law.
