2016-02-24

Gandaki, Parbat, Phalebas, Ward 3

Locals of Parbat district headquarter Kusma has enforced bandh in the district on Wednesday protesting against the heavy power outage imposed in the district. The locals had been pressing the Electricity authority and the District Administration Office to end their woes caused by massive power outage since the last few weeks. But the locals enforced bandh on Wednesday after their voices were unheard by the government authorities. Marketplaces, schools, factories, banks have remained closed since early morning due to the bandh. Designated as a district affected by hydropower projects, the government had not imposed any power cut in the district in the past. But this year Parbat has seen power cuts for up to 10 hours a day. The locals have protested before the DAO and Electricity authority demanding an end to a power cut. Achyut Tiwari, secretary of the united struggle committee informed that they were preparing to launch an indefinite general strike in the district from Thursday if their demands were not fulfilled. Despite the bandh, transportation service remains operational in Parbat today.
