Bara woman brutally kills own infant

A mother, who reportedly killed her 14-month-old baby girl in Birgunj, has been arrested on Wednesday. Police said Anita Devi (36), of Kalaiya-2 in Bara district, was arrested from Birgunj Sub Metropolitan City-19 on charge of murdering her infant child Rupa Kumari. According to SP Raju Babu Shrestha of Parsa District Police Office, Anita Devi already confessed her crime of filicide. The woman, who used to make a living by running a tea shop in Birgunj, had reported the disappearance of her baby with the local police on February 25. However, on the very next day, the infant’s body was recovered from an open field near the Indo-Nepal Eye Hospital in Birgunj. SP Shrestha revealed that Anita Devi shared a polyandrous relationship with two men and police had nabbed both for interrogation. The duo also revealed that the woman had murdered her infant brutally by strangling the victim under the influence of alcohol.
