Police have detained a government officer on multiple charges of forgery, bribery and misuse of government stamps in Mahottari. According to SP Janak Bhattarai of the district police office, Jaleshwor customs office assistant accountant Sanjeev Kumar Sah was arrested at the written order of the district administration office for involvement in forgery, misuse of government stamps, and bribery. A non-gazetted first class officer, Sah had recently applied at Jaleshwor-based Treasury Controller’s Office for a promotion to the post of accountant. The forgery came to light after the office suspected the authenticity of the submitted documents and investigated the same. “We initiated action against the arrested after we found that almost everything he submitted, from performance evaluation form to letter pad, stamps and signature of the chief of land revenue office he worked at earlier, were bogus,” said Dilliram Giri, Chief at the controller’s office. Upon being questioned, Sah is said to have offered Rs 10,000 to Giri to cover up the forgery.
